Email Receipts
Automated email receipts for one-time donations, recurring plans, and installments — with merge tags for personalized messaging.
Email receipts are automated messages sent to donors after they give. They serve as confirmation, tax documentation, and an opportunity to reinforce the donor's connection to your cause. Nizam supports three receipt types, each covering a different donation scenario.
Receipt Types#
- One-time donation receipt — sent immediately after a successful one-time donation
- Recurring plan receipt — sent when a donor creates a new recurring donation plan, confirming the frequency, amount, and start date
- Installment receipt — sent after each successful charge on an existing recurring plan (a monthly donor receives one of these every month)
Each type can be independently enabled or disabled. For example, you might disable installment receipts to avoid overwhelming monthly donors with emails, while keeping one-time and plan creation receipts active.
Which template is used?
When a transaction involves a single campaign with customized receipt content, the campaign's template is used. If the campaign-level receipt is disabled, no email is sent. For transactions involving multiple campaigns or campaigns without customized content, the organization-level template is used instead.
Customizing Receipts#
By default, receipts use a standard format. Enable message customization to take full control of the email content — the subject line, an image, a title, and the message body. Custom receipts let you match your organization's voice and add context that turns a transactional email into a meaningful touchpoint.
Merge Tags#
Merge tags are placeholders that automatically populate with real data for each donor. They let you write one template that feels personal to every recipient. For example:
"Dear Ahmed, thank you for your $50 gift to Masjid Construction!"
Supporter#
- First Name — the donor's first name
- Last Name — the donor's last name
- Email — the donor's email address
Transaction#
- Transaction ID — the unique identifier for this donation
- Amount — the total transaction amount
- Donation Amount — the donation amount (excluding fees if covered)
- FMV — the fair market value of the donation
- Campaign — the campaign name associated with this transaction
Recurring (plan and installment receipts)#
- Recurring ID — the unique identifier for the recurring plan
- Amount — the recurring charge amount
- Frequency — the donation frequency (monthly, weekly, etc.)
- Donation Amount — the recurring donation amount (excluding fees)
- FMV — the fair market value of the recurring donation
- Campaign — the campaign associated with the recurring plan
- Next Installment Date — when the next charge will occur
Campaign#
- Campaign Title — the campaign's display title
- Supporter Count — the total number of donors to this campaign
- Total Raised — the total amount raised by this campaign
Campaign Group#
- Campaign Group Title — the group's display title
- Supporter Count — the total number of donors across the group
- Total Raised — the total amount raised across the group
